2023 Youth International Film Showcase (YIFS)

The Youth International Short Film Showcase, hosted by the Footcandle Film Society and the Greater Hickory International Council, will take place on Thursday, September 21st.  This free event will screen several short films from different countries, all with an intended audience of children ages 9 to 14 and their families.  This year’s film selections were chosen from over 100 film submissions and represent a variety of countries and cultures through both live-action and animated storytelling.  There will be two screening times on September 21st, showing the program at both 4:30pm and 7:00pm at the Hickory Community Theatre in Downtown Hickory.

Students from across the county’s three public school systems and all area independent/private schools are invited to attend the 90-minute festival event. In past years, over 3,000 school children had a chance to see the variety of films that were selected.

Two awards will be presented at the Awards Ceremony at the Hickory Community Theatre on Sunday September 24 at 8:00pm. The first is the judges’ award and the second is the audience award. Each winner will receive $500 and a Footcandle award.
