Community Conversations on Global Issues

The GHIC annually sponsors two community conversations on global issues. Partnering with national organizations such as FOREIGN POLICY ASSOCIATION and PBS/ITVS as well as local groups, FOOTCANDLE and the HICKORY PUBLIC LIBRARY the Council hosts programs that focus on global topics relevant to the local community.

GHIC & FOOTCANDLE co-host 3-4 international film series each year with post screen discussions. However, due to the current virus situation, this film series is on hold until further notice.


2020 – Great Decisions Discussion Series

GREAT DECISIONS is a national, civic-educational program that encourages participants to learn about U.S. foreign policy and global issues. The GHIC will host 8 sessions of the 2020 Great Decisions Discussions typically happen in person, begin at 6 pm and end at 8 pm. 30 community members can participate.

Due to the social distancing requirements and extended stay at home orders, the Foreign Policy Association is offering the Great Decisions 2020 television series free of charge on YouTube. This means that during this current social distancing period, we can view all 8 chapters online at any time.
