Centro Latino

Mission

Provide a Christian response to the needs of Latinos in our community, closing the cultural gap between Spanish and non-Spanish speakers through advocacy, service and training.

History

In 1998, the pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Hickory held a vacation bible school for Latino children that lived in a local trailer park. Through that experience, she and representatives from other churches and service agencies in Catawba County began to identify the concerns and needs of the small but growing Latino population. Centro Latino was incorporated in 1999.

Since then, as the Hispanic/Latin population continues to grow, Centro Latino has  transitioned into a community resource center led by local Hispanic leaders for the Hispanic/Latin community of Catawba and surrounding counties. Services now include educational programming for Spanish and non-Spanish speaking adults, immigration services, and cultural enrichment opportunities for
children and families.
