Thanks to the 30 attendees of today’s 1st session “America at a Crossroads”. I am glad that the experts spoke today. We shared great information and knowledge, and we are now certainly more informed of the status of America’s Foreign Policy influence. However, as usual, we have no answer to the long-term direction of our policy. Every administration change, or maybe even every two years, it seems like our direction changes 180 degrees. Is our long history of liberal International leadership better than the current America 1st approach, or should we look at a mixture of the two? Do we have too many options to consider? Do we want to reject or limit free trade? Can democracy and capitalism not co-exist as they did for decades? Is democracy attainable worldwide? Is the Mercantilist economic approach a way to regain our economic influence and respect worldwide? Does the America 1st approach work even though it may wreak havoc in the process? Will our alarming increase in the National Debt eventually hinder our economic growth and cause uncontrollable inflation? Will our departure from the WHO and the Paris Climate Change, increasing Tariffs and deportation proceedings impact our long term internal and external economic superiority? What is the future status among the superpowers in the tripolar global system? Will Russia and China continue to counterbalance the United States, will the three become separately counterbalancing each other, or will they learn that working together will lead to the most economic growth for each of them?
We also covered the National Opinion Ballot Report which is the summary of the Foreign Policy Association’s 2024 National opinion survey. I will email the data in the next few days.
Next Tuesday’s session is on the “U.S. Evolving Leadership in the World’s Economy”. Here is the link to the video Session 2 Video
We had a robust conversation about the national debt. The infographics below put the DEBT into perspective.
