DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\nEvent | Event: Festival Todos Somos América | We Are All America Festival \nFecha | Date: Sunday, September 29th | Domingo, 29 de septiembre\nLugar | Location: The Sails on the Square | En el centro de Hickory\nHora | Time: 3-8 pm\nEach year, the United States observes National Hispanic Heritage Month “Mes de la Herencia Hispana” from September 15th to October 15th, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988.\nThis year, Centro Latino, in partnership with the City of Hickory, will hold its third annual Todos Somos América (We are all America) festival Sunday, September 29th, Under The Sails on the Square from 3-8 p.m.\nThe event will include activities for the whole family including exhibits about various Latin American countries, face painting and piñatas for children, food trucks, a karate demonstration by children that participate in Centro Latino’s after school enrichment program Abriendo Puertas, raffles, a DJ playing traditional music, a Quinceañera’s parade and competition, and traditional dances. We will be presenting the third annual Outstanding Catawba County Latino award and our Abriendo Puertas scholarships.\nThrough this festival, our intention is to acknowledge and honor the substantial contributions that Latinos bring to Catawba County. By doing so, we hope to enhance cultural awareness and strengthen community engagement among our residents. Our goal is to transform our county into a more culturally diverse, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all. Throughout the festival, we will celebrate our vibrant dances, traditional music, and rich language. Recognizing that Latinos play a pivotal role in our local economy and workforce, they have also played a significant part in creating an improved living environment.\nIn addition, we intend to ignite inspiration within younger generations of the Latino community, fostering a profound sense of pride in their heritage and culture, ultimately nurturing a feeling of belonging and identity.\nWe would like to provide an opportunity for people from various backgrounds to immerse themselves in and learn about Latino cultures.
